Many homeowners are unaware of the severe damage that a clogged drain line can create on their home. These unsuspecting homeowners may go years without realizing the potential damage to their foundation. Many homeowners throughout Ohio have experienced the cost of a contractor not doing work properly. Even on many new homes that are being built in Columbus today have been affected by a contractor that chose to do things improperly. When it comes to the health of your home, it is important to remember that many contractors are looking to do the project at hand in the most cost effective way for their business. Ultimately, the result ends up in homeowners having to redo many of the renovations themselves, or hire another contractor to fix the mistakes made by other contractors. In the instance of gutters for example, many contractors sub the installation out to someone who may not even be qualified to install the gutters, or someone that didn’t account for the amount of square footage on your home. This is a costly mistake for the homeowner. Our question for you is:
Do you know if your gutter system has adequate drainage for your home? During a heavy rainfall, is your gutter system overflowing? Maybe even during a light rainfall?
These are signs that either your gutter system is plugged up with debris, or that your gutter system is inadequate for the amount of runoff from your roof.
We are the professionals in Columbus Ohio, and we are here to help you get the proper size gutter system, or schedule a routine cleaning that will help your gutter system manage even the heaviest of rains.
Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!
Cleaning your gutters is something that should be done regularly as part of home maintenance. This is typically a job that needs to be done either annually or biannually, depending on your climate and the amount of trees near your home. Working with a professional gutter cleaning company will make the job a lot easier on you as they have experience working on a ladder, and can save you the headache of doing the job as well as the risk of falling. Also by using a reputable gutter cleaning professional, you can protect yourself from having to pay for any injuries compared to hiring a neighbor or teenager to do it.
The cost to clean gutters won’t vary all that much city to city, with the national average coming in at $150. Gutter Cleaning prices can vary depending on the size of your home, and the level of difficulty.
A single-story house will have the lowest gutter cleaning costs. The cost to clean gutters will increase with each story. If you have more than two stories, then the taller stories might be charged on a higher rate than the lower ones because it increases the risk and usually requires special equipment.
The cost to clean gutters is sometimes determined by the amount of linear feet of gutters or by the square footage of the home. Either way, the larger your home, the more you can expect gutter cleaning costs will be.
If you haven’t had your gutters cleaned out in awhile, then the cost to clean gutters will probably be higher. If there is a lot of debris to remove, then the job might take longer. Gutter cleaning costs may reflect that extra time.
Some gutter cleaning professionals will inspect and tighten fasteners and reseal end caps and outlets. You may also opt to have a gutter cover installed so you can wait longer between cleanings. This will increase the cost to clean gutters, but could save you money in the future.
Cleaning out downspouts tends to be more expensive and will add to gutter cleaning costs. This is a crucial element of gutter cleaning, though, as this will ensure that the water pours all the way down to your yard. They take extra time to clean, though, and will increase the cost to clean gutters.

How Often Should You Clean Gutters?
Clean gutters at least once a year — twice a year if you have overhanging trees. Also, clean clogged gutters after big storms. Clogs often occur where downspouts join the gutter system — check these areas closely.
How to Clean Gutters
- Wear a shirt with long sleeves. Wear rubber gloves.
- Have a good extendable ladder available. Standoff stabilizers (ladder “horns”) are ideal to keep the ladder from damaging the gutter.
- Use a small plastic scoop to remove gunk. Buy a gutter scoop from the hardware store ($25) or try a child’s sand shovel.
- Spare your lawn by dumping the stuff onto a plastic tarp.
- After you’ve cleared the muck, flush the gutters and downspouts with a garden hose — also a great way to spot any leaks.
How Much Does it Cost to Pay Someone to Clean Gutters?
If climbing ladders is not your cup of tea, you can hire someone to do the job for you for $150-$250, depending on the size and height of your house.
Should You Try Gutter Covers?
Interested in an ounce of prevention? You can slow clogging by installing gutter covers in the form of mesh screens, clip-on grates, or porous foam. However, the cost can be more than the gutters themselves, and covers need regular maintenance to keep them clear. Expect to pay $6-$8/running foot for gutter covers, installed.

Do you have standing water along the side of your home?
Not only is standing water an eyesore, but it is also a health hazard. Standing water can lead to the breeding of mosquitoes that can carry many infectious diseases. Is a french drain installation necessary for your home?
In many circumstances, a french drain will alleviate the standing water around your home. Some things that determine whether or not a french drain is a possible solution for you are:
1.) If a french drain is installed, do we have somewhere to take the water to?
2.) How much water is being funneled through the area?
Water flows down hill, and if there is no where for the water to drain to, then installing a french drain will not be suitable for your home. If you have a good grade on your yard, or another drain line that we can tie into, then a french drain might be a possible solution for you depending on how much water is in the area. A french drain can withstand about 2-3 feet of water on either side of it. Of which, it can take a few days to actually drain. The important thing is the water is actually draining. In the instance that there is too much water for the french drain to handle, then we may need to consider installing some catch basins at the low points to get more water into the drain line at a faster rate.
If you are still unsure as to whether or not a french drain is suitable for your home, then give us a call! We will send out our estimator to do an assessment to see if whether or not you are a qualified candidate for a french drain.
