Preventative Drain Maintenance and Your Home

It’s that time of year again! Here at Professional Gutter & Drain we specialize in drain repair in Columbus Ohio. We have a few important tips for all homeowners to protect your home from the up and coming winter freeze.

  1. Have your underground drain lines snaked, cleaned prior to the freeze. This is especially important due to the build up of debris inside your underground drainage system. Debris can include: shingle grit, dirt, leaves, sticks, and the occasional critter that has worked its way into your drainage system.
  2. If you do not want to pay a service provider to come and snake out your drains, then we would at least recommend flushing out your drains with a garden hose. Be sure to let the water run for at least 20 minutes to help flush out any debris.
  3. If you know that your underground drain lines are in need of replacement do not wait till the spring to get them fixed! Most service providers are still working during the coldest months of the year, and are eagerly looking to keep their workers busy. Before the water begins backing up into your basement, call a local service provider near you to come and give you an estimate for replacement.

If you have lived in your home for several years, and have never had your drains snaked, or camera inspected, this is a good indication that you will need to have them maintained soon. In many instances, homeowners call us before it’s too late and once drain lines become in-serviceable then it is time for replacement which could cost you. Drain lines are an important function to the overall health of your home and non-functioning drains can cause foundation issues, and much more.
